I have just done the same with the same result. I have also flagged the issue
on the review section of the app in the app store.

I found the following BBC website and sent a message to the BBC accessibility
team via the link on this page drawing their attention to the failure of the
search function on the BBC IOS Sound App and it was returned with the
following message:
"I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered".
Unbelievable, I suppose the next step is to make a complaint 😊
