Hi Carol,

Most labellers will take two widths of label. Although actually since
the labels come out narrow edge first, "width" is usually "height" if
that makes sense.

The last labeller I bought was for my wife, and albeit a while back,
was on special offer at Staples, and was like two label printers in
one case.

They do come with their own software, but once you have installed the
drivers, when you subsequently go to print in an application like
Word, you will find that you can select a whole variety of label sizes
and even shapes.

George.

OK George. I'm convinced to buy myself one the next time I go in
the Staples direction.

I got the impression that they're all very similar, but do they
all come with their own software, or do you just use your address
book etc and normal email or WP prrogramme when using?

Do some labelers only take one size while others can take
different sized rolls?

Anything else I should consider when purchasing?

Thanks.

CAROL

Hi Carol,

Even with sight, I've always found it a pain in the whatnot to
produce
just one label. These label printers are designed to produce one
or
more self adhesive labels from a roll.

I forgot another label application we use at the office.
SmartStamp.
We print our own postage stamps. It's cheaper than having a
franking
machine, but does cost £4.99 a month. But where could I get a
franking machine for just under £60 a year?

George.

Hi George,

Thanks for this explanatory message. I din't realise the
printers
were thermal.

What advantages do you see in using these labels as opposed to
those
printed in a normal printer, apart from the obvious already
mentioned
of not needing ink?

Carol

Hi Carol,

They are all much the same. In fact between home and ofice, we
have
at least one from each manufacturer. They are all thermal
printers,
so you never need ink or ribbons. The are relatively easy to
load
once you been shown a time or two.

You asked about uses. Greetings cards - as well as the address
label,
you can add a "From" label inside the card with a message if you
want.
Property labels - "If found, please telephone bla, bla". Keep a
few
in your purse or wallet as business cards. Junk mail - "Please
return
to sender".

And if you are one of these really lucky and clever people with a
bar
code reader, you can print your own bar codes to label all manner
of
things.

George.

OK, George, what uses? Which are the best for totally blind
people
and why?

Once you get a real label printer, you'd be surprised just how
many
other uses you find for it.

 George.

How about an ordinary printer with an envelope feed?

 Hello

Can anyone recommend an accessible label printer. This is
mainly for
printing labels for letters etc.

 With thanks in advance

 Mike.
