I think I've come to the conclusion that in il2 the only advantage the Reverb G2 offers over the Index is less screen door. God only knows how it up samples from lower resolution, if that were hardware assisted inside the headset, it might make sense, but I doubt it.
The G2 is also stuck needing 90 Hz and over concentrates the pixels in the centre of view. Half the price or the Index though!

But Roke, MSAAx4 is a huge benefit for spotting. But it's been very painful dropping resolution to use it. Distant spotting is unrealistically good now, as soon as I zoom, the contacts almost vanish.

If il2 were to get a real graphics refresh, I might try higher res and no MSAA again.

Balanced, no shadows and medium clouds is what I go with too. Simple mirrors (and I allow myself normal canopy reflections as an eye candy concession). Running msaa x 2, I get 90 fps in most / all circumstances, including with lots of cloud and forest / buildings.

2016 x 2380 resolution. After many hours of testing, thats what works best for me (and staying very closer to 90 fps is essential for my hmd).

I've basically gone beyond fiddling with the settings now, although I might try 4x msaa to see if spotting gets any easier, and if it's worth the fps hit.

Having realised I really need MSAAx4 for spotting, I was running
"application resolution" 2308x2264, but found that on Finnish in heavy
cloud and in Kuban it was too stuttery in close combat. Despite
generally getting 90 Hz. Even with Clouds on ghastly Low.

So I've stepped down to 2184x2140 and run the SYN_Vander benchmark with
Clouds on Low, Med, High plus my original resolution. All have MSAAx4,
graph attached.

Interestingly, Medium Clouds seems to get higher framerates. So this new
resolution and Medium Clouds (horrible Balanced graphics and no Shadows)
will be my selection for the moment.
