As there's been some discussion of Discord, I had a look at their Privacy Policy and also whether you can use sub-channels to give us the whisper functionality we have in TS.

Privacy Policy:

First, some good words:

  • We don’t sell your personal information. Our business is based on subscriptions and paid products, not from selling your personal information to third parties.
  • We limit what information is required. We require the information that enables us to create your account, provide and maintain our services, meet our commitments to our users, and satisfy our legal requirements. The rest is optional.
However, there's a wrinkle there that non-third party could be any company that is owned, or who owns Discord.

This is an improvement on the past, when the Discord founder Jason Citron (still CEO) founded OpenFeint:

In 2011, OpenFeint was party to a class action suit with allegations including computer fraud, invasion of privacy, breach of contract, bad faith and seven other statutory violations. According to a news report "OpenFeint's business plan included accessing and disclosing personal information without authorization to mobile-device application developers, advertising networks and web-analytic vendors that market mobile applications".[8]
More from Discord:

Information from actions you take. We collect information about your use of Discord and your activities on the services. This includes the friends you add, the users, bots, and apps you engage with, the games you play on your device, the servers or other communities you join and participate in, your roles in servers...
However, it seems you can opt out of these. How effective that is, I don't know.

Sub-channels:

It seems sub-channels can easily be created on a server. However, I could not find any information on whether a user in a sub-channel could "whisper" to another sub-channel. IF not, then it seems to me that Discord fundamentally lacks the capability we need as a squad, unless we radically change the way we communicate.
