IMHO if a printer disappears and reinstalling it brings it back then it is related to the driver. Isn't that what is getting re-installed? Personally, I still think it is related to the USB connection and how the driver is communicating or not communicating with the port. When the printer disappears, WinXP is telling you it does not see a printer on that USB port. If you have the option, try switching it to a parallel connection. At any rate, good luck with it. Seems it's to do with the spooler. Got it working but just heard from client that it disapeared again, he reinstalled and it's back. But for how long..............??
