This afternoon we birded up the shore of Lake Michigan, starting in Sheyboygan and heading to Kewaunee. At the Manitowoc Empoundment we met another birder, Chuck Sontag (sp.?) who kindly put us on to a Little Gull mixed in with lots of Bonaparte’s, Herring and Ring-billed gulls. While talking, he mentioned that a Franklin’s Gull had been seen up by the groins along Mariner Trail, north of the Empoundment. After locating the Little Gull on the breakwater leading out to the Light we decided to head up to the groins to see what might be there. We didn’t see the Franklin’s but hile checking out Forester’s and Common terns there, we ran into Chuck again and he asked if we had seen the WESTERN GREBE? We hadn’t, but there it was, near shore, with a loose group of Scaups and Redhead ducks. While getting good looks at Forester’s and Common Terns on one of the groins, we had overlooked this group of “unremarkable” birds until Chuck pointed out the Grebe. What a nice bird to almost overlook. Thanks to Chuck for pointing it out! https://www.flickr.com/photos/heuers/sets/72157645255320713/ Jeanne & Curt Heuer Brown County#################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
