The Impoundment is located just east of and opposite the south end of the
Hoan Bridge which is a part of the 794 interchange and which spans the
mouth of the three rivers at Milwaukee's harbor. (Bay View) Access can be had
by exiting 794 at the first southbound exit for the Ferry. Take a left at
the bottom of the ramp and follow around to the "T" opposite the Coast Guard
Station. Left at the "T" which is South Lincoln Memorial Dr., where access
to the ferry terminal is an immediate right. To see the owl, keep heading
south along the Lincoln Memorial between the salt piles to the west and
lake. You'll be driving beneath the Hoan until you come to an opening in the
chain link fence. That's the Petroleum Pier, and the owl is, as has been
stated, either atop the lights or the pipes or on the dock itself.

Bring a scope if possible to get the best view of this beautiful and alert
bird.

In the past, great viewing could be had to the impoundment from adjacent
to the landmark blue trailer. But, this past year, the impoundment has
undergone grade change due to the addition of dredging from primarily the KK
and Menomonee rivers. So, while we had owls in the actual impoundment last
winter, there is less vegetation there now to draw them there specifically.
Many folk have taken to using the ferry terminal road and lot, but be
warned that especially while the ferry is in service, you must park in the
actual lot and walk to a viewing spot or risk making their security folk upset
or more.

I hope the bird remains for all to view.
