Hi Eleanor,

Apologies, the way I used to be able to do it was to press the select
button/centre button on the contact then arrow down to either mobile or
telephone then arrow right through the digits.

Yes but you did not answer my question Roslyn. I asked if you did it a
different way other than going to Edit and inputting that way, what was your
alternative way that will not work now?

    Hi Eleanor,

Nope my phone used to allow me to do this a different way and I can't
figure out why in the last couple of weeks it won't let me do this anymore.

        Hi Eleanor,

It was one I knew how to do already but somebody did post it as a
suggestion when I mailed with my query. if you go into the contact, press key
one and on the list of options here is edit. If you select this it will allow
you to scroll through the items character by character.

Well I am intreagued Roslyn as to why you are unable to do it. How
do you do it then? You say you have another way.

            Hi Eleanor,

Sorry I'm not on Skype. It's not that important though. I just
can't figure out what happened.

Roslyn I wonder if someone at NCBI, maybe the person who deals
with Talks, could give you a call and try and resolve this issue. I know a
lady in Northern Ireland who might help talk yhou through some things but the
problem might be cost of telephone calls. Are you on Skype? Some of the
people on the Talks list are on Skype and might be prepared to talk you through
it.

                Hi Eleanor,

Not sure. This is the most problematic thing I've had to deal
with on my phone. I've gotten resolutions to all my other problems via this
list. There is another way I can do what I'm trying to do. I just can't
figure out why this way won't work anymore when it used to.

I haven't resolved this yet. I live in Portarlington. There
is a phone shop here but it is not one of the bigger ones and I don't think
they are particularly experienced with talks.

Sorry about that roslyn. Would you consider joining the
Talks list.

                    Hi Eleanor,

I haven't resolved the problem yet. Yeah I have it set to
character.

If you are holding yhour phone facing you with the
numbers in a vertical or portrait position, screen rotation turns the text on
the screen to landscape. If that is the case you would probably want to turn
your phone on its side but that would be awkward for using the keypad. However
if it is turned off, particularly for visually impaired users it stops Talks
getting somewhat confused at times. I just thought that might have been
another idea to try and resolve your problem. Did you manage to resolve it
roslyn? Did you ensure that you had not reverted the cursor to original mode
and that it was on character so that you could move across the contacts fields.
I trust you know how to do this. You press Talks key and then hold down the
number two for a few seconds. It will say somethng like Word. If you do not
want word at a time press Talks key again and long press number 2 on the keypad
and it will say either original or character. There are the 3 positions. You
want character. Let me know if you are still stuck and we can try and think of
something else.

                        Hi Eleanor,

Thanks for this. I couldn't find the exact setting on
my phone. What does screen rotation do?

hi Joan-Anne I am wondering if you ever resoved your
problem re contacts. In case not please try this also.

Go to the menu, Tools, Settings, General, Display,
then down to Screen Rotation. You will probably find this is set to auto.
Press the square joypad to change it, and turn it off. Back out of the
settings.

Note on my N96 I had to go from General to Profiles
to display but I am sure you will be able to work around this on your
particular model of phone Joan-Anne.

                          Eleanor
