Definitely worth an insurance. I was paying a lot £3.50 sterling per month on
a UK Vodafone contract. Lost the phone jwhen getting jout of a car in
Enniskillen in April. Vodafone sent out a replacement, instead of N95 I got
N96 and I have never looked back since. Always thought the insurance was a lot
and always thought I'd never loose my phone but how wrong I was!

  hi rosyln
in my own experience with faulty phones , and i must say i was on billpay
with vodafone, i had insurance on the phone costing 6 euro per month and i made
a claim.
vodafone sent out a new phone and i had to pay i think it was about 30euro .
not sure if you are on pay as you go or bill pay.

    Roslyn!

Sorry if I was sounding like "a big Daddy" to anyone but thought that as I
have a little more experience now that I might share a little of my knowledge
to others on the list!

"you know that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing"! <smile>
Trust that others might post something likewise of their learning too,
from time to time!

Jusst a matter of interest to us in learning land is the other way of
resolving the problem still working for you and if so it would be good to hear
you on the list about it.

    Love your determination!

      Hi Tony,

I got the phone in a Vodafone shop in Dublin City. Yep talks was
included.

I can manage to use the phone without getting this sorted. I just don't
think it's worth the hassle of sending it away to get it fixed and possibly
being without a phone for a while.

If I do get it resolved I'll definitely let you all know.

        Greetings Roslyn!

I wonder where you bought the phone from and was it Talks included?

You see wee don't really have a lot of info from you!

Try back where you got the phone and Talks software from.

You may have to pose it there, don't know really your details.

It maybe that Talks may have to be uninstalled/reinstalled.

Don't know if there is a 'repair' option with Talks as there is for
example with Jaws!

Could be too that there is a phone issue!

You know contact the NCBI and I'd be very surprised if they wouldn't
assist!

        Worth a shot!

I'm sure that will say and agree that they don't know all!

Let us know how you get on!

I tell you that it isn't all plain sailing out there but I think
somehow that you will get there!

        Determination, I like it!

        Regards

        Tony

          Hi Tony,

          Yep I use talks.

There is not a specific mobile phone shop in town and I would prefer
to go to a shop with more experience on these things. The problem isn't that
urgent to get fixed as I can do what I was trying to do another way. I would
just like to figure out what has gone wrong.

            Roslyn!

            Not being smart re this!

Do you have Talks or other speech programme?

Occasionally when I encounter a problem with my phone where it is
not say Talks related I go to the store, or equivalent, to ask them to sort it
for me!

Occasionally they may not want to know but usually they are good!

Off peak times to go in to them I think is good!

I surely definitely get it sorted!

Keep those questions aa-going on this list as for sure I'm)contrary
to opinion I'm not always that knowledgeable contrary to all opinion) not yet
perfexct! <smile>

            Regards,

              Hi Tony,

Yeah I have talks. The problem was that I used to be able to go
into a contact and pressing the centre button on the phone scroll through the
information e.g. first name, last name, mobile, telephone, etc. When I'd get
to mobile, for example, I used to arrow right through the number if I needed to
retrieve it. Now my phone won't do this. There is another way of retrieving
the number, I was just trying to figure out why my original way wouldn't work
anymore.

                Hi Roslyn,

Could you post again your problem with your phone?

I don't use that phone but there has to be a solution!

Usually when I get a new phone say with using Talks I can work
it out pretty well!

Try all the options, going through all of the menus!

Take your time and you should get there!

                Do you have Talks?

                  Hi Eleanor,

Not sure. This is the most problematic thing I've had to
deal with on my phone. I've gotten resolutions to all my other problems via
this list. There is another way I can do what I'm trying to do. I just can't
figure out why this way won't work anymore when it used to.

I haven't resolved this yet. I live in Portarlington. There
is a phone shop here but it is not one of the bigger ones and I don't think
they are particularly experienced with talks.

Talks list.

If you are holding yhour phone facing you with the
numbers in a vertical or portrait position, screen rotation turns the text on
the screen to landscape. If that is the case you would probably want to turn
your phone on its side but that would be awkward for using the keypad. However
if it is turned off, particularly for visually impaired users it stops Talks
getting somewhat confused at times. I just thought that might have been
another idea to try and resolve your problem. Did you manage to resolve it
roslyn? Did you ensure that you had not reverted the cursor to original mode
and that it was on character so that you could move across the contacts fields.
I trust you know how to do this. You press Talks key and then hold down the
number two for a few seconds. It will say somethng like Word. If you do not
want word at a time press Talks key again and long press number 2 on the keypad
and it will say either original or character. There are the 3 positions. You
want character. Let me know if you are still stuck and we can try and think of
something else.

Thanks for this. I couldn't find the exact setting
on my phone. What does screen rotation do?

hi Joan-Anne I am wondering if you ever resoved
your problem re contacts. In case not please try this also.

Go to the menu, Tools, Settings, General, Display,
then down to Screen Rotation. You will probably find this is set to auto.
Press the square joypad to change it, and turn it off. Back out of the
settings.

Note on my N96 I had to go from General to Profiles
to display but I am sure you will be able to work around this on your
particular model of phone Joan-Anne.
