No.  The screen that first opens up when I opened the Kindle is a register 
screen, which I used before, and which worked.  I have tried going into 
manage your kindle then register a Kindle, and can't figure out the page.  I 
also looked at my devices, and the PC version is not shown.  I'll try what 
you suggest, however.

Shoshana, did you try registering the software by going to "Tools" and
then to "Options?"  There is a "Register" tab in this menu.
