This is a little late, but worth reporting. Jay went on the walk at Banshee
Reeks Saturday morning, feeling a little sorry for me because I had to work and
couldn't join him. Instead, I paid a quick visit to Sunrise Valley before work
and had better luck than he did! Six species of warblers--A half dozen each of
Redstarts and Magnolias, plus Common Yellowthroat, a Yellow, a Parula, and a
Black and White. Also Red-eyed Vireo, Peewees, and Phoebes. But the surprise
of the day was an immature Bobolink that must have been lost because it was by
itself. It gave me enough time to scribble down all its markings before it
flew off saying "bink, bink, bink." This was a first for Sunrise Valley.
Now that the construction of office buildings and parking garages is finished,
the birdlife is starting to rebound and that is very reassuring to those of us
who bird there all the time.
