BJ and I spent the weekend birding between VA Beach and Chincoteague. The
dictating factor for both days was the wind; sparrows were
tough to raise. Notable birds were:

Horned Grebe - 1
Red-necked Grebe - 1
Gannet - 100s putting on a FABULOUS DIVING SHOW
Brown Pelican - 30+
Great Cormorant - 10 (in beautiful breeding plumage)
Brant - 20
HARLEQUIN DUCK - 1 pair off Island 4 (thanks to some Ohio birders)
Surf Scoter - 1000s
White-winged - 1 off Island 3
Black Scoter - 100s mostly off Island 4
Long-tailed Duck - 1 pair only off Island 3
Oystercatcher - 3 pairs
Purple Sandpiper - 6
ESNWR:
Osprey - 2
Laughing Gull - 1 only
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 1
Pine Warbler - 3
MAGOTHA ROAD:
Black-Bellied Plover - 2
Dunlin - 4
OYSTER:
Snowy Egret - 2
Black-bellied Plover - 3
G. Yellowlegs - 4
L. Yellowlegs - 10
Western Sandpiper - many
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1
Chipping Sparrow - 2
WILLIS WHARF:
Marbled Godwit - 50+
Forster's Tern - 2
CHINCOTEAGUE:
GREATER SHEARWATER - 1 offshore on 3/21, playing on the screaming offshore wind
Tri-colored Heron - 1 only
Snow Goose - 100 or so
Tundra Swan - numbers are down from a month ago
Bald Eagle - 2 adults making strafing runs on flocks of ducks & gulls
PIPING PLOVER - 5 (thanks to Mike Iwanik for mentioning them)
Bonaparte's Gull - 1 only
Tree Swallow - 1 only on 3/21
Brown Thrasher - 1
