Good morning,
Returning form Chincoteague and Assateague today, we drove across the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Stopping at the scenic view on the north end of the
bridge, we were delighted to see over a hundred brown pelicans floating,
skimming over the wave tops, diving for lunch, and just hanging out. In
addition, an immature bald eagle spent several minutes circling over the
pelicans and us.
While at Chincoteague and Assateague, we saw:
an immature tricolor heron
great blue herons
great egrets
snowy egrets
cormorants (hundreds on every pier, post, and mud flat)
oyster catchers on the mud flats
wimbrel
greater yellow legs
sanderlings
gulls and more gulls
black ducks
mallards
green-winged teals
american wigeons
red-tailed hawks
sharp-shined hawks
bald eagles
osprey
marsh hawks
tree sparrows by the hundreds
yellow rumped warblers everywhere!
snow geese (immature, white, gray morph)
flock of royal terns on the beach
skimmers
Regards,
Jim Fitzgerald
