Thanks for that info, Armando and for the Netsquirrel link. I shall forward it
on to work and follow your instructions. If you could please send me the JV16
link so that I can forward it to work too, that would be great. It does work on
XP as I have it on my PC here (maybe I could just copy and send the exe file to
work). However, a lot of things do not install properly at work because of
security settings and, come to think of it, the Incredimail installation did
not complete properly - because of that reason I suppose.
I think its so silly that programmers do things like this because it is exactly
the thing which would make me NEVER want to try it again or recommend it. I
have emailed incredimail but doubt I will receive a response.
Thankyou Armando, I'll let you know how I go.
Sandy :)

Sandy, knowing your expertise, I know you properly uninstalled Incredml.,
i.e., the installation finished properly & only then did you uninstall it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if not, then try reinstalling and then proceed to
uninstall.

If you know for certain that you did as explained above yet the glitch is
present, then try using MSConfig to rid yourself of the icon you explained. You
will have to look for the "incredimail" tag & uncheck it.
Reboot and see if you're rid of this.

Look here for some background info on XP's MSConfig:
  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310560

It would be nice if you could check the registry for the changes incredml.
made, so that you would be totally rid of it..., but then again messing with
the reg. could be detrimental!

I don't know if jv16 would work in XP; remember Juanita posted a link to a
working version that doesn't expire. Let me know if you need the link to that,
though first we'd have to ascertain that it works in XP. This is wher someone
with XP expertise would come in handy. Does anyone here know if jv16 works with
XP?

  HTH,
  Armando

Stupidly, I tried to install Incredimail on my PC at work, thinking that if I
didnt like it or if it caused problems, I would just uninstall it. I did
uninstall it. It is not noted in Add/Remove Programs, nor does it show up in
Program files. However, every time I start my computer, a flipping thing comes
up and asks do I want to continue with the installation of Incredimail. When I
say no, it places an installation icon on the desktop to continue later. How
can I get rid of this infernal nuisance. I ran Spybot and Adaware but they
didnt help. I even tried system restore (XP Pro) but it said it couldnt go back
to whatever restore point I asked it to (whether or not this is an Incredimail
quirk, I'm not sure, but system restore has worked on other occasions). Any
help would be appreciated.
  Thanks everyone.
  Sandy :)
