While birding for migrating warblers on the south side of Old Hickory Lake
April 26 I saw my first pair of Western Tanagers. It was a relief to see Ken
Oeser report the same in Hendersonville on the other side of the lake. Also
enjoyed watching a Rosebreasted Groesbeck. A pair of Black Vultures have been
nesting on a duck blind (next to the Canadian Geese nest with 2 goslings) near
our home as well as a pair of Red Shoulder Hawks and a pair of Barred Owls
within a 100 feet of our house again this year. The Prothonotary Warbler is
back again this year building false nests near our house while searching for a
mate.
