I believe that the Western Tanager is the same bird that spent the winter with
us last year. That bird came in with the bad ice storm on January 6. He stayed
until April and left at the same time as my Yellow-rumped Warblers. I was
hoping that when he migrated he'd get his bearings to find his way home, but
that doesn't seem to have happened.
He came in this morning and went straight to the suet pie and seemed very
comfortable and at home. Let me observe his behavior for a few days to figure
out what his a routine is going to be. Once I have a pattern for when he might
be at the feeder, we can see about arranging times when people can come.
