Hi Dean
At least at my house, the YB cuckoos call more often at night than in the da=
y, best I can tell=2E I often sit outside reading until 12 or 1 a=2Em=2E and=
 they seem to be as much the nocturnal singers as mockingbirds=2E I sometime=
s hear what might be a response or competing call from neighboring YBs=2E Th=
ey also crank up 30-60 min=2E before the local roosters and other dawnsinger=
s=2E

I had occassionally been seeing Yellow-billed Cuckoos in the woods behind
the house (West Knoxville) this summer but was dissappointed that they
hadn't been calling=2E I love hearing their call=2E And with as much rain
as we had last week you'd think the raincrows would be calling all the
time=2E ;-)

Turns out I was just listening at the wrong time=2E I was out taking
pictures of some moths at the lights last night (24 June) at around
11:30 PM when I heard a YB Cuckoo calling=2E  I didn't realize they
called at night but a check with Bent's Life Histories reveals:
"The song of the yellow-billed cuckoo is often heard during the
night,=2E=2E=2E=2E"
