basically we control all our apps to our own farm the old way of copying
icons to a desktop based on group membership its been set up for a while
on Metaframe XP.

we have a requirement for a published app from head office farm only one
app for a handful of people there is a upgrade project in the pipe line
for to upgrade farm to 4.5 with web interface but being tied down in a
Vista roll out at the moment has put that on hold for now but that is
the way we will be progressing which will make my life much easier.

For not it looks like I have to script to copy the required files for
these handful of users to their app data based on a group membership.

If everybody needs to run the same app and only one app, it's
easier to use an .ica file rather then doing it in PN.

If you need multiple apps, then create a pre-configured Program
Neighborhood that has the .ini files ini it. Configure your published
apps to put the icon on the desktop and start menu. When the user
launches PN the first time, it will be pre-configured and the shortcuts
will appear automatically.

The major problem with PN is that it is not centrally
configured. You have to be good at scripting to change the configuration
once the client is deployed.

Another problem with PN is that some of the newer features, like
Workspace Control, are not supported. I suspect that Citrix won't be
doing much development in the PN client.

Just out of curiosity, why is Web Interface/PNAgent not a
possibility?

sorry to revisit this again but I wont be able to use
PNagent as It would need a web interface to populate the icons as I
recall,

I can set the published app up on a pre user bases but
what I would like to be able to do is just copy the pn.ini , the
appsrv.ini and the uistate.ini as these are the ones were I see the
changes that seem to apply.

the part that is killing me here is the three hidden
files that relate to the shortcut for the published app. Where the
target is "C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client\pn.exe" /APP "E I S" /PNI
"kf4gs4n5" and the kf4gs4n5 relates to the hidden files with the
shortcut being a different random number.

When I try to use the same shortcut it fails, is this
even possible when it created in a users profile is it linked there some
way.

Yes, and you can merge multiple farms together
as a bonus. This will also allow you to manage the ICONs on the Desktop
of you existing farm.

You will want to use PNAgent to manage
the shortcuts and not PN.

                                Joe

                                Hi ,

Need to connect to a published app in
head office in a 4.5 farm, I have all this running fine on the server if
I create the application set and the run the published app it runs fine

My question is how do I make this
available to our clients from within their desktops?

When I copy the shortcut the application
set is unavailable, I have tried using the same PN.ini file but still no
difference as I see all the settings is in this file.

                                thanks

                                Ronnie
