Correct, however you can use the /PAE switch on W2k3 Standard to get some
of the memory the newer PCI Express Servers steal. It sucks when you buy 4
gigabytes of RAM and server only lets the OS use 3.1 gigs.

Hi Angus,

Let me point you to this post...
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=231928

Also VMware Host requirements says...
Maximum: 64GB for Windows hosts and Linux hosts that support large memory
or are PAE-enabled, 4GB for non-PAE-enabled Windows hosts

Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32bit) is considered to be a non-PAE host.

There is certainly a lot of confusion over the memory support limits in
            Windows.

Cheers,
Jeremy.

Hi Angus,

I've just tried this in a new server with 5GB of physical RAM, but it
doesn't seem to work. Are you using Standard or Enterprise Edition? Do you
just enable it on the host, or on the Virtual machines as well? Is there a
way of telling exactly how much memory is being addressed?

I'd appreciate your help to understand exactly how you have achieved this.

Cheers.

I use it on my Virtual server hosts and enabled the full 12GB of RAM with
no issues.

Subject: [THIN] Windows Server 2003 Standard - 4gb Limit

      Hi List

Environment - Windows Server 2003 Standard with PS4.0

I have read in a thread that it is possible to use more than 4gb of
RAM on the above OS by using the /PAE mode.

Has anyone done this, and if so, recommend it?

      Many thanks
