Along the same lines as Brians thoughts but easier, you should check out
NCDs ThinPATH PC. www.ncd.com It basically converts a pc to a thin client,
but you can also use local applications, in your case IE. It replaces the
windows explorer shell with a simple tab interface with
connections/applications defined. It also has a properties gui to lock down
many pc and security settings. The server management tool allows you to
deploy these settings by defined groups to pcs across your whole network. If
you like the control of thin clients, but don't like their limited local app
functionality and limited driver/peripheral support, this product is worth a
look. It creates a thinclient device with the power of pc hardware and a
real M$ OS underneath, but in a controlled environment you configure and
deploy centrally.

Publish a Desktop or IE. Use Group Policy to disable downloads and active
x.

Convert all of your PC's to dumbterminals (Win9x and Citrix Client). Lock
down the dumbterminal using Poledit and registry hacks (remove icons,
drives, etc....). Create one shortcut on Startmenu called "Connect to
Server"

For the Winterms you can just connect to IE Published App.

Then again, I guess I'm assuming your running TS or Citrix somewhere at
corporate.

I apologize if this question is a bit off topic. We operate a number of =
non-profit long term care communities for older adults and would like to =
be able to offer Internet access for our residents. We currently give =
them access via our T-1 from the public side of the corporate firewall = but
have had problems with using PCs or standard thin clients to do = this. PCs
quickly become a nightmare with porno downloads, etc. = (residents of
off-hour staff, we're not sure) and thin clients =
(WinTerms) used just for Internet access leave a lot to be desired. I =
would appreciate any suggestions on an Internet terminal or other method =
for accomplishing access for our residents that is reasonably functional =
with a low support overhead.

Thanks...
