True. I was just saying that for down level clients and mixed AD/NT 4.0
domains they will see and treat AD servers as BDCs. It's kind of like
talking about ICA Master Browser in the world of MetaFrame XP. It still
exists, just never used.

I think we are talking semantics here. In an AD environment, all DC's are
equal. This is no primary, there is no secondary. Any DC can be written to
and deleted from, not just the one with the PDC role. the PDC role can be
moved around at any time and is used for certain functions (mainly password
sync) but in no way denotes it as anything more important than any other DC.

Yes, there are BDCs in AD. Basically any AD server that does not host the
PDC FSMO role functions as a BDC. Atleast, that's what the down level
clients see.

I think the first question is what do you mean by demoting a DC to a BDC?
there is no BDC role in AD. There is a FSMO role of PDC but that's not
quite the same as it used to mean.

Dwaine,

You should be able to set any domain controller to hold PDC role in windows
2000/2003 domain.

Open up AD users and Computers, right-click the domain and select Operations
Masters. From there you would access PDC tab. That controls which server
holds PDC role. Make sure DOS clients can access this server.
