This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 7/23/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and
contact information to Nate McGowan at natemcgowanbirds@xxxxxxxxx.
Not rare, but a spectacle in its own right, the Austin PURPLE MARTIN roost
has been relocated in Capitol Plaza at the 5400 block of I-35, *Travis*.

-Rarities found this week-

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was a great find at a private residence in New
Braunfels, *Comal*, 7/20. It is thought that this is a returning bird from
the past winter.

A PURPLE GALLINULE was reported at Shipp Lake, *Bastrop*, on the west bank
north of the railroad tracks, 7/16.

ROSEATE SPOONBILLS were seen at Cedar Valley Lake, *Bastrop*, 7/17 and a
flyover at Platt Lane (photographed), *Travis*, 7/17.

A HUTTON'S VIREO was seen at Russell Park on Lake Georgetown, *Williamson, *
7/19.

REDHEADS were seen at both Hornsby Bend and Barkley Meadows, *Travis*, 7/22.

Three MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen at Riata Ponds, *Travis*, 7/17.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was photographed at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 7/21.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

At least two SNOWY PLOVERS continued at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, through
7/19.

A LONG-BILLED THRASHER, an outstanding find at a private residence in
western *Travis*, continued 7/18. The bird has been well photographed.

A GREAT KISKADEE continues at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown,
*Williamson,* most recently 7/17.

Two LESSER NIGHTHAWKS continued near the CVS and Minuteman Press Buildings
in downtown San Marcos, *Hays*, most recently 7/20.

A BUFFLEHEAD and a REDHEAD continued at Devine Lake Park, *Williamson*,
7/22.

A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER continued at Commons Ford, *Travis*, 7/17.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered on the
Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
When documentation or photographs were provided, that is mentioned along
with the other information about the bird(s) being seen. For questions or
