This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 7/16/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and
contact information to Nate McGowan at natemcgowanbirds@xxxxxxxxx.
Not rare, but a spectacle in its own right, the Austin PURPLE MARTIN roost
has been relocated in Capitol Plaza at the 5400 block of I-35, *Travis*.

-Rarities found this week-

A BUFFLEHEAD was seen at Devine Lake Park, *Williamson*, 7/14-15.

A WILLET was well described at Shipp/Stagners Lake in *Bastrop County*,
7/12.

A REDHEAD was photographed at Devine Lake Park, *Williamson*, most recently
seen 7/15.

A single SNOWY PLOVER was photographed at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 7/9 and
six were photographed at the same location, 7/16.

Two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were seen in the Utley are, *Bastrop*, 7/10.

A LEAST GREBE was seen at Devine Lake Park, *Williamson*, 7/13.

A RING-NECKED DUCK was photographed near Thrall, *Williamson*, 7/11.

Two CANVASBACKS were photographed at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 7/8.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

A LONG-BILLED THRASHER, an outstanding find at a private residence in
western *Travis*, continued 7/11. The bird has been well photographed.

A GREAT KISKADEE continues at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown,
*Williamson,* most recently 7/14.

Two LESSER NIGHTHAWKS continued near the CVS and Minuteman Press Buildings
in downtown San Marcos, *Hays*, most recently 7/13.

A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER continued at Commons Ford, *Travis*, 7/12.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered on the
Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
