This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 1/29/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and
contact information to Nate McGowan at natemcgowanbirds@xxxxxxxxx.
-Exceptional birds in the circle-

A STRIPED SPARROW was photographed and audio recorded at CR 428 east of CR
361, *Williamson*, 1/11. There have been positive reports daily through
1/26. This is a potential first ABA record, although provenance has been
questioned.

A EURASIAN WIGEON was a great find at Lake Creek Trail*, Williamson*, 1/18.
The bird was present and photographed for several hours before it flew
east. It is likely that the bird is still in the area.

The BROWN BOOBY at Windy Point on Lake Travis, *Travis*, was last reported
1/8.

More updates, positive or negative, are highly encouraged for these birds.

-Rarities found this week-

Two SURF SCOTERS were photographed on Belton Lake, *Bell*, 1/27.

A SAGE THRASHER was photographed Flying X Ranch, *Burnet*, 1/24.

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was photographed at McKinney Falls State Park,
*Travis*, 1/24.

GREATER SCAUPS were seen at Meadow Lake in Round Rock, *Williamson*, 1/27
and CR 352 near Granger Lake, *Williamson*, 1/25.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was well described for Salt Lake, *Guadalupe*, 1/24.

Two HORNED GREBES were reported from Russell Park at Lake Georgetown,
*Williamson*, 1/24.

A NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW was described from Platt Lane, *Travis,*
 1/25.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

A HEPATIC TANAGER continued at Canyon Lake Dam and Nature Trail, *Comal*,
1/24. This is an exceptional record for the area.

A CURVE-BILLED THRASHER continued at Reimer's Ranch, *Travis*, 1/25.

A SAGE THRASHER continued at  Devine Lake Park, *Williamson,* most recently
1/25. The bird has been well photographed.

A BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER continued at John Stokes San Marcos River
Park, *Hays*, most recently 1/29..

A SAY'S PHOEBE continued near Manor, *Travis*, 1/25.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at Tejas Camp, *Williamson*, 1/25.

A well photographed ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD continues at a private residence in
west Austin, *Travis*, 1/24. The bird has been present since at least
December.

Individual CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS continued on private property in New
Braunfels*, Comal*, 1/24 and a private residence in central Austin, *Travis*,
1/28.

A WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH continued at Max Starke Park in Seguin,
*Guadalupe* 1/19.

A GREAT KISKADEE continued at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown, *Williamson*,
1/29.

A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continued near CR 428 at Granger Lake, *Williamson*,
1/28.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continued at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, most recently 1/29.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered on the
Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
When documentation or photographs were provided, that is mentioned along
with the other information about the bird(s) being seen. For questions or
