Jeff, My point was, you can look up the 2SD1651 in an ECG/NTE book and
see that it crosses to the ECG-2331, if you then look up the spec page in the
front of the ECG book for the 2331 it will give you the current ratings etc., 
etc.
of the 2331, armed with that info Al could search his parts bin for a 
replacement
transistor which was his question in his post, if he was a newbie I would have
been more specific, He`s not a newbie, so I just assumed he would check the
specs and choose the correct replacement, I guess I should have been more
