I believe it has to do with the phosphors. The phosphors absorb the color from
the
tubes which is what we see. When you view the color blue on a piece of paper,
or a
police car, the all colors, but blue are absorbed.
I think I am on the right track, but difficult to explain.
You ask some real good questions, hopefully one of the geniuses on this list can
explain it better.

If blue is harder to see, why do police cars have blue and red flashing
lights? I thought the blue was easier to see and travelled a longer
distance?
