That's quite interesting. The 2sc2539 is a 7A  1500 volts transistor,
the c5339 is very similar, a little faster and has higher beta.
Both are faster than the D188*/ D187* series (.2 vs .3ns), their gain is 
higher,
The 2SC2539 and the 2SC5339 are made by Toshiba, the D188* by
Sanyo

By the way, the 2sd2580 by Sanyo, seems worth giving
it a try as well, just take a look at the data sheet at the
Sanyo or B&D website.
