i agree.
i never sell parts, across the counter. we are a repair shop,
not a parts store.
i tell them they are my stock to repair sets with, where i do
make my living. and i loose money on them, especially the time
to research and order them, and shipping, and depreciation on
the shelf and many that just disappear.
i left a decent man go because he had too many family and
friends he repaired for.
he was just moon lighting with my parts, is my opinion.
another thing is phone calls.
i never give an estimate on the phone.
i listen politely then tell the to bring it in with the
deposit , and i will give them an accurate estimate then.
I do get along with my local competition.
we occasionally share schematics.
My competition is Wal-Mart.
i have found most will only pay half what a new one would cost
them.
so before you spend half a day on a 13 inch combo, think twice.
as for decent wages,
i want to be totally legal, with all the license and
insurance, and working in an authorized business location,
business phone and yellow pages full time counter and phone
clerk open 50 hours a week. 3 employees needed.
but it takes a lot of 50 buck repairs to pay for this.
i need health insurance, and many other expenses,
in my area, 50K in decent living here. but nothing to brag about.
just my opinion,
Larry
