Hi Phil,
did you get any answer for this quite common fault
with Sony tv sets?.I'm doing an home repair a Sony 32"
and found first a safety resistor that feeds the tda
8170 vert.ic blown,then i was rewarded with a blank
picture,my welleman oscilloscope sees a good Y signal
entering the croma ic.(TDA 4580) but flat output of
the R G B components,the sandcastle is excellent and 
the supplies on the crt neck are OK,I fear a bad
crt.Any suggestion in defeating the blank screen?.Ciao
