Why?  Because they are profitable repairs if you do enough of them to be
efficient at them, and we do.  If the tubes are good and you are thorough
you can get a reliable fix and the customer will get a few more years out of
the set.

Why?  because we are in the business of fixing things and fixing them right.
I agree that if the customer is not willing to pay for the full job, they
should replace the set.

I have posted the procedure we use on these sets to get all of the bad and
failing caps several times here and on sci.electronics.repair.  If you
follow it and you get good at it, you can do one of these sets in about 5-6
hours of labor.  I have my helper who is in the shop on Saturdays do most of
the work and he makes good $ for his experience level.

Mitsubishi had some bad batches of caps from Nichicon and Rubycon, and
perhaps others in the early 1990s.  Hitachi had similar problems on a
smaller scale, as did Toshiba with the infamous caps in the vertical
circuits.
