Monte, "In my opinion"(I emphasize this for the tech who likes to jump on others), I agree with you to a certain extent. I feel your method is good for the newer units. I think a rewinder for a unit more than maybe 6 or 7 years old may be a waste. The older units were made to with-stand the constant rewinding and even with the first came out with the 'quick-play' method, the video heads were of better quality. Now..I still don't see the need to have this stipulation..depending on how long of a warranty you give. If it's a 90 day warranty, they would almost have to use it hours per day for it to wear the heads, or stall the capstan motor. If you offer 6 month..maybe. Now, if offer three months, advise the customer of the benefits of an auto-rewinder, the unit fails two months out-of-warranty, they bring the unit back to you, then buy a rewinder from you. Kind of lengthy..but I hope you get my point. Not that "your way is wrong" if it works for you....then your way IS right. I feel it is more important to talk your customer into keeping the older VCR rather than buying a new one. I would say about half the time I am able to talk the customer into the repair.
