I would suspect that Poor quality tape from China and Hong Kong, is more
likely a part of the problem, as is the stupid Sony-esque designs that
leave the tape loaded during ff and rew. Some VCR's even leave the head
spinning for awhile in the stop mode. It should not be surprising that they
do not last long.
