This came up originally when developing tactile paving in co-operation with the RNIB. The main source was ladies who quite justifiably wanted to be fashionable. The sole of their shoes is thin, whereas many men use a thick sole as part of their personal comfort. The raise on the dimples is a compromise to try and ensure that the 'sign' can be felt through thick soles, but it is not ideal. It has cropped up from time to time since and no middle way found. The grumbles are not confined to those with an impairment, due to a problem I have I meet it myself, but have the 'advantage' of knowing why I suffer. This is the first time we've had this complaint although the individual tells us that it is a wide spread problem. Any thoughts?
