Sue,=20 This issue has occurs a lot over the course of the design of puffins, one solution is to use 'narrow angle of view' puffin units developed by one or more manufacturer, whilst I believe these units still require authorisation they can remove many of the problems associated with see through. The other main difference can be made by reversing the usual stagger on staggered crossings as this makes the conflicting aspects point away from each other, the pedestrians still have to look at the traffic when they reach the crossing so the traditional 'safety' problems tend to be reduced as long as the heads are carefully sited. The other major headache can be triangular islands, in this case you have to design the crossings as an integral part of the island design and use limited angle of view puffin heads to stand a reasonable chance. Hope this helps.
