We worked with AGD (and Suku at DfT) and persuaded AGD to develop the=0D=0A=
Narrow Field of View (NFOV) Puffin signal for us - specifically for=0D=0Apr=
oblems that we had with multiple pedestrian crossings to triangular=0D=0Ais=
lands. We have also used the new version with a small angular=0D=0Aadjustme=
nt - which is very useful. I thought that the NFOV signal had=0D=0ADfT appr=
oval - by now.=0D=0A=0D=0APlease be aware that the angle of view on a NFOV =
signal is quite narrow=0D=0A(if I recall correctly, a range of about 22 deg=
rees, as opposed to about=0D=0A90 degrees on a standard indicator). Also th=
e cut-off of view is quite=0D=0Asharp (over about 2 degrees at each end of =
the angular range) - and that=0D=0Abeyond that - you can be standing right =
next to the signal and may NOT=0D=0Abe aware that it is green! So these are=
very helpful in tricky=0D=0Aread-through situations, but be careful with t=
he alignment, otherwise=0D=0Ayou get the opposite problem, and pedestrians =
may not see the signal=0D=0Awhen it is green!=0D=0A=0D=0ARegards=0D=0A=0D=0A=

=0A=0D=0ASue,=3D20=0D=0A=0D=0AThis issue has occurs a lot over the course o=
f the design of puffins,=0D=0Aone solution is to use 'narrow angle of view'=
puffin units developed by=0D=0Aone or more manufacturer, whilst I believe =
these units still require=0D=0Aauthorisation they can remove many of the pr=
oblems associated with see=0D=0Athrough.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe other main differen=
ce can be made by reversing the usual stagger on=0D=0Astaggered crossings a=
s this makes the conflicting aspects point away=0D=0Afrom each other, the p=
edestrians still have to look at the traffic when=0D=0Athey reach the cross=
ing so the traditional 'safety' problems tend to be=0D=0Areduced as long as=
the heads are carefully sited.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe other major headache can be =
triangular islands, in this case you=0D=0Ahave to design the crossings as a=
n integral part of the island design=0D=0Aand use limited angle of view puf=
fin heads to stand a reasonable chance.=0D=0A=0D=0AHope this helps.=0D=0A=0D=
