Orlando,

Do you know if the equipment has type approval? Not so important possibly
for TFL given your exhustive testing and internal approvals, but essential
for most others. I'm unable to find a Webpage for details as it might help
with some issues we're currently experiencing.

In addition to previous comments regarding LED lamp monitoring, TES
(Traffic Engineering Services) also have a lamp monitoring system that
enables array and/or CLS (central light source) type LED aspects to be
monitored on present traffic controllers. There are currently 18 LED
signals trial sites, that have been in situ for over 18 months (using
TES-GEL LED lamp monitorable signals) in London Borough of Croydon. You
can contact TES on 07977-432-995.

Further to my earlier email, so that the user community is well
informed, I have been advised that TSEU have developed a new
Intelligent Lamp Monitor unit (I2LM) that is capable of monitoring their
CLS optics (both LV and ELV). I understand that this is being utilised
in the LED roll out project in Kent.

The I2LM is capable of doing both safety red monitoring as well general
aspect monitoring and outputs (volt free contacts) to the controller or
a remote monitoring outstation.

It should be noted that 3rd part LED signals have not been characterised
yet so the I2LM can only be used with TSEU signals.

Robert,

The Siemens RMS lamp monitoring is designed for conventional lamp
monitoring through the torroids at the phase outputs. Conventional
current monitoring of 240v LED optics at the controller is difficult, if
not impossible, due to the very low and irregular current profile and
harmonics from the switched mode supply. This is probably why TSEU
provide sense wiring from the monitoring that is done directly on the
optic. However, I also suspect the OMU does not have software that is
designed to report lamp faults using such inputs.

However, I believe lamp current monitoring of LED aspects should become
easier when we move to ELV operation - as see on the Siemens ST900 ELV
controller.

When installing a Siemens RMS OMU into a non-Siemens controller, you
would normally fit torroids to perform lamp monitoring. Our new sites
are now installed with LED signals, has anyone any experience of how RMS
copes with monitoring LEDs? Specifically, we have Microsense LED Signal
Heads, the type that use a sense wire for monitoring the reds, the newer
3G TSEU signal heads and also Peek Elite LED.

Thanks
