We are currently trialling an alternative video detection product at one of=
our junctions as a video stop line and as a scoot loop.=20
The unit can be configured with upto 8 virtual loops with 4 fully configura=
ble outputs from the unit. Configuration of the unit is by laptop in real t=
ime and is carried out from an interface installed in the controller. The u=
nit itself is about the size of a tennis ball and is quite unobtrusive.=20
A demo of the unit can be seen here www.trafficam.com

The UK distributor Mike Collins can be contacted on 01423 734164 / 07977432=

Subject: [TCUG] Above ground stopline detectors

We, and possibly some of you who don't have road condition standards so bad=
they warrant a =A3660m PFI scheme, have a number of sites where loop detec=
tion is faulty and there is no point recutting until the road surface is br=
ought up to scratch. It may be several months, or a couple of years, before=
this is done. In the meantime we would like to be able to install some abo=
ve ground detection, which doesn't have to be perfect to be a lot better th=
an no detection at all. We have often used a combination of microwaves for =
approach detection with a stopline loop, so what we are looking for is a re=
asonable above ground replacement for the stopline loop - preferably someth=
ing that can be easily and cheaply installed on a signal head. I think we'v=
e tried most of what is available, but I would be grateful for any suggesti=
ons and experiences.
