Chuck: Which ones do you have? The acorn nut style like from WW or the 6mm bolt style like from WCM. I have the 6mm bolt style and I have no problems either. It is the acorn nut ones that everyone claims vibrate like crazy and the acorn nut fails. --- On Fri, 11/18/11, chuck <sukchew@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: chuck <sukchew@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: Bus mirrors To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Friday, November 18, 2011, 7:47 AM I guess I got the only good pair of Elephant ears in the world.I have not had any problems at all. That bing said they will probably fall off tomporrow. oleblue ----- Original Message ----- From: atxan To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2011 10:09 PM Subject: [tcb] Re: Bus mirrors Well, I am very glad I asked the question before purchasing anything. Thank you everyone for the advice. Currently my mirror arms are not movable so I was expecting to replace both the mirrors and arms. I've seen some clever devices on thesamba for extracting the arms. Sounds like it could be difficult. WW has always been my favorite parts source. I'll keep looking and see what I find. It sounds like those of you with the small round mirrors have adequate vision. So, stock is probably the way to go. Keep you posted. Thanks! We walked around the Eureka show and the Classic looking at mirrors and the fact is there are not any decent pre 67 mirrors being made any more. The new standard seems to be this “acorn” nut thing that is made of pressed metal and does not even have any welds. They will last, under the vibrations that we are all aware of in our busses, about 3 weeks. I took a “bullet” apart and built a mirror mount with a big ass washer, drill pressing holes, and a big glob of JB Weld to make a mount to work. I had to basically build a mirror mount. If you can’t find a bullet mount, you’re screwed. It seems that the only bus mirror worth buying any more, in a practical and maybe even a historical sense is the West Coast Mirror. It looks like a mirror from a 18 wheeler, but is has been around since the 60s and the first bus I ever bought, a ’60 bus (Jason) in ’72 had them and they worked great. Full vision and very little vibration. For mirrors you are going to have to buy cheap tinny crap, vintage bullet, build your own ( I did) or go with the West Coast. That’s all there is. My brother bought a set for a bay and the acorn nut busted off. He got a replacement set and they did the same thing. Go to WW and spend a little more for Some good ones.
