Also tell them that they are missing half their blessings!Because if they would put as much money in to making us a door to door system,
we might be fewer in number, but,we would probably use it enough for the city to finally make a sizable profit.
I say that because non disable people with their own vehicles, use them and don't just have them parked in the garage or drive way.If they would put just as much money in to accessibility of the disabled population.
Make the system a lot less personal as the system is for the non disabled (nobody knows where they are going when they ride the buses and why should they know where we're going all the time)? or, should have to call twenty four hours in advance?
It is not equal treatment! It is not ADA!All they need is your name and your riding pass you carry on your person and your fare and you visit Tom, dick or Harry when ever you wish.
I say door to door mapping system with our vehicles amply staffed, and passing by all the time, would get us up and going, putting us more in the market to compete and participate more in life as usual for our counterparts.
It would be almost like we were owning our own vehicles, or, not too far off the mark.
That's more like equality. If they would put more in, they would get more out. They don't put nothing in and nothing can come out.Nothing can come of all this planning they have to make before one of us can ride!
I don't know how much the normal system costs, I don't have the figures in front of me, but,
were they to spend just as much on our equilibrium, they'd find it just as beneficial to the environment. They are not seeing the whole picture! They can't see for looking, or, not! That's how I see it! Thanks! Charles Atkins----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynn Evans" <evans-lynn@xxxxxxxxxxx>

So, Mr. Blackjack, if you haven't added your voice already , please tell Star Metro what you just told the rest of us.----- Original Message ----- From: "Mister Blackjack" <misterblackjack2@xxxxxxxxx>To: <tabi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 29, 2009 6:29 AM Subject: [tabi] Re: Fw: starmetro infoThat would be counter productive. They should go to all major places like the civic center Tallahassee museum , the malls and libraries and such. I passed this info to Sila. I got if from Owen, who obtained it from StarMetro directly. And, yes, seniors, disabled, and school-age children all pay 60 cents. I'm pretty sure-- but not positive-- that when a discounted fare is deposited, the driver has to push a key-- presumably one of these 3 categories-- to have the fare box accept it as a valid fare. These figures and percentages are from 2008. Interestingly, also from 2008, 29,979 people boarded at Governor's Square Mall; that's over 85 people per day. There were about 25,000 people boarding at Tallahassee Mall. There still seems to be no concession from StarMetro on going into the malls. The argument for Tallahassee Mall, of course, is that since it is already in recievership (close to being bankrupt), why bother? This is NOT, however, a valid argument, of course, for Governor's Square. Another tidbit: In 2008, the malls were the only 2 stops among the top20 (most boardings) which were not campus stops (FSU, FAMU, and TCC-- don't recall the order). So, 1) this jives with the 76% ofriders being students figure, and 2) makes it all the more ridiculous that they are refusing to go into the malls! The manager at Gov. Square said he is totally in favor of the buses continuing to come into "his" mall... StarMetro is going to try to make the mall put up any money that would be needed for "improvements" to make the parking lot traverse safe. -----Original Message----- From: Easy Talk <easytalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: tabi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tue, Oct 27, 2009 12:09 pm Subject: [tabi] Fw: starmetro info Here is a message Sila sent to me. Not sure where she got the info though. I find it interesting that Star metro has such stats available. I guess they get them from the fair boxes and sales of bus passes but if the disabled fair and seniors pay the same, how do they determine between the two. That said not counting the regular riders approximately 14.3 percent of riders could be disenfranchised and most certainly some of the other riders. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sila Miller" <MillerSi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <easytalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <silam@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 11:10 AM Subject: starmetro info 89 thousand seniors 53 thousand disabled out of the 4.2 million 3 quarters of those were covered under university contracts Thus out of the approximate 1 million left, 5.3 percent disabled 9 percent seniors so, disabled not such a small percentage after all Check out the TABI resource web page at http://acorange.home.comcast.net/TABI and please make suggestions for new material. if you'd like to unsubscribe you can do so through the freelists.org web interface, or by sending an email to the address tabi-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject.
