Dear Joseph:
A spade is a spade. It is also invariably an agricultural tool, and also a big spoon for digging the soil. Impairment can denote impairment in the full context of life, by a visual inability, because it is an "inability" to see, varying in degree. I therefore think "visual disability can encampass all of those like me who can not see even a bulb shining the room like day, or those only impaired because they can see but not well enough to read print. Whereas I do not think "visual impairment" would accurately describe me, "Visual disability" would describe many of us. I think that is the way the debate developped at the foundation of SOPVID. I have to say this is not the only available perception, and we can have a lively discussion.

Hello Joseph Epuu

Many thanks for your suggestion.

However, as we were forming the society over ten years ago, we
thoroughly debated the issue and arrived at the present name. Indeed,
both "impairment" and "disability" denote a limitation. I actually
think that each of us must come to terms with our limitation
(disability/impairment/blindness/partial blindness), for then we shall
be more confident as we interact with the world.

Warm regards

Dear members of the society,

indeed, I'm quite exuberated for da cordial hospitality demonstrated
by sopvid to me. I know i will be on top on technological issues

to our name only if it is workable.Suppose we call ourselves a society
of professionals with visual imparement.Disability denote incapability
and incapacitation, yet we are equally capable professionals equal to
the task.
Technologically, i am still disabled. It is my humble request to the
society to fully empower me technologically to be able to read with
others on the same script.
