The magnetic symbols just look like print music only you get to place
the symbols onto the stave. I use it with sighted students because it is
more active than simply looking at the page with symbols already on and
we play games like placing the notes onto the lines and then playing
each others music. Mostly I use it at beginner stages to learn how to
read by direction e.g. are the notes/sounds going up or down and are
they steps or skips (2nds or 3rds etc). It is especially fun for boys
who don't like to sit still!

Wendy,

When you teach a sighted student to read music, do you use the magnetic

tools, or do you have teaching materials already that you know well
enough

to help them learn the basics?

I may take on teaching my grandson piano and don't know how the magnetic

tools would work in that situation, since he's sighted.

Hi there everyone

I am a Braille music teacher in New Zealand and teach piano to both

sighted and blind students. All of my blind students need to have an

understanding of what print music looks like to manage music in their

school environment, so I have made a magnetic resource for this purpose.

I use it now with all my students as it is a very engaging way to learn

print symbols. You can find more info on our blog site (sorry I don't

have any photos as such yet).

http://blennzmusicschool.wordpress.com go to the MagneMusic page.

I have units for sale but am not sure about how to manage overseas

transfers. If you want to discuss this further you can contact me off

list at: wendy.richards@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Alison,

Please include me in this. I'm interested in the tools you can describe.

Hi, Steph,

I use a conbination of aids to do this. This list probably isn't the

right

place to describe in detail, but if you want to talk to me off list my

email

is

alison.trelfa@xxxxxxxxxx

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Alison Trelfa.
