Another good low cost simulator is Simetrix, from Catena http://www.catena.uk.com The demo version has no time limit and although it's limited in complexity, it's big enough for many problems and great for learning. It has full-function features compared to PSPICE (which I still use sometimes) for example but has a much newer core, and is about 3 times faster with other improvements such as sweep function extensions. It runs on an ordinary Pentium and costs very roughly the same as a Mac I think so it's worth considering against MI-SUGAR for example if you want to avoid the Mac.
