Hi Designers, I'm new in the IC Design field. Currently I'm involved in the Receiver Part design for 12.5Gb/s Limiting amplifier with pure BJT and SiGe Tech. I'm facing difficulties in the Limiting Amplifier design coz i'm not clearly understand the actual operation and the concept of LA. Well as what I know after reading some journals and books, the duty of LA is to amplify small amount of voltage (Vpp) from Transimpedance Amplier and then keep the constant output swing for any level of input voltage, or in other word to be in saturating/clipping signals. I need some clarification overhere :- 1) The output of TIA is 6mVpp ~ 800mVpp. So, from TIA the LA must be able to amplify the 6mV to be 400mVpp & for the 800mVpp also the LA must be able to give 400mVpp. Myself really not clearly how actually it will make the constant output from the 6mVpp until 800mVpp. 2) As, I know, the LA is constructed from the cascaded Diff.Amplifier, so if this is the case, i have tried 3 stages and the output off course vary with the input to output with appropriate gain and not giving 400mVpp. I hope there are people in this field to guide me on my clarification and to make myself clear about the Limiting Amplifier Design. Your cooperation on this matter is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bala. --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
