If you take a quarter wavelength line
and place a short at the end, it looks
like an open at the input. An open at
the output reflects back as a short.
True for odd multiples of lambda/4.

Can use same property to make a 
narrow band impedance transformer.
Z of line = SQRT( Zin * Zout)
