Hi Alex, I think that it is very common for companies performing signal integrity to have both tools. Simply put, the tradoff that you have is time vs accuracy. Running a whole board in spice just isn't really practical, timeworthy and in many cases not worth it. When I run a coupled line simulation on a single net through coupled connectors, it is not uncommon for the simulation over corners to run a day or so. Getting some spice models may prove difficult if not impossible as they are often regarded as the family jewels (so to speak). When you can get them an NDA is often required. Again the issue of time. Depending on how fast you are running, you may be just fine with ibis based sims. Just my 0.02 best regards, Michael Greim -----Original Message----- From: Alex Horvath [mailto:alexh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 31, 2001 1:41 PM To: Si-List Subject: [SI-LIST] Relative merits of Spice vs. IBIS I have worked at some companies where they do both spice simulations and IBIS based simulations. Recently I had one IC manufacturer recommend that we use spice to simulate there I/O + transmission line rather than IBIS. What are the relative merits/disadvantages of each? ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu
