Harvey Since you do write Do files manually I would recommend using MakeDo product, by DFM it is a Specctra command syntax editor with built in intelligence that reads the Specctra DSN file you want to assign constraints to. It is a great tool for creating detailed rules for Specctra. Keep in mind; it is not an SI tool. I have been using it for about a year now, and believe me it does save time, and improves accuracy in the Syntax and rule implementations. Actually, we are trying to find the proper crosstalk parameters so that we can write the rules in spectra. We currently use Allegro and Specctra, and write our .do files with a text editor. I have written detailed rule files for High speed Designs.=20 I used two scenarios, one have all the constraints within Allegro, and another scenario by having all rules done as a ASCII do file. The results were favorable to the DO file, since you have more control on what the router does. Specctraquest does have the advantage of interfacing with Allegro, however I really don't know what layout package you are using. Specctra router, which is now under Cadence, does have a good communication with Allegro and Specctraquest, but only one way and not great, since it used to be a stand a alone product. One more thing just because the Product names are similar, dos not mean that the tools operate well with each other.=20 I currently use Allegro, Specctraquest, and Specctra on a daily basis. The tools that work great together, is Allegro, and Specctraquest. Let me know if you required more info regarding this. The most important use of these tools that we see, is to develop the Specctra routing rules. Specifically we are working in the domain of 600Mhz LVDS and Rocket I/O, as well as the normal STTLII for the DDR memory interfaces. The question is, over a several year period, would we be better off to hire outside companies to develop these rules for us as needed, or to have the tools in house and develop them ourselves. Any comments would be appreciated. If anyone has any leads on who we could contact to get prices on developing these rules it would be appreciated as well.
