You answered your own question. Stud "service" means the service is
provided..the payment is due at the time of that service unless otherwise
agreed upon by both parties. Exceptions could be an unproven dog, a puppy
back, etc. A repeat should be given with a natural breeding or an AI.
However..a repeat in my opinion is only optional with chilled semen as the
semen is evaluated when collected..and evaluated before insemination of the
bitch by the bitch owners vet. The stud dog is collected and the semen is
shipped per the bitch owners instruction so the stud dog owner is basically
doing what he is told to do by the bitch owner and their vet.. At that
point the stud dog owner has done their part, the service has been rendered
if they have provided live, motile viable semen from their stud dog...after
this it is up to the bitch owner to shoulder the responsibility of
conception. If a repeat is given for a chilled which was found to be of
acceptable quality by both vets..then that is extremely generous on the
part of the stud owner.I think a compromise would be to charge half a stud
fee for a chilled repeat as at least this covers the time and trouble
involved in going to the vet for collections for something that wasn't your
fault to begin with. Technology has changed the dimension of dog
breeding...the days of the stud dog shouldering all the responsibility for
bitches missing is over...finally.C.Grainger
