The coats on those other breeds were developed to be effective in
different types of typography. The shepherds developed dogs that
worked best in the area they lived in and that included a coat which
best suited where they lived and worked. As for Puli (and Komondores,
Spanish Water Dogs, etc) is was/is customary for them to be "sheared",
just like the sheep, for the summer. Again, it depends of what the terrain
and weather is like. I have a friend in New Hampshire that raises sheep and
she uses Marema Sheepdogs as flock guards....they get sheared everyspring
with the sheep.
