Wow - I had no idea my little note would stir up such a hornet's nest!
Our club has had the associate membership since long before the
Regional Challenge existed, and its purpose is to provide a club
"home" for people just like Beth describes below. They pay dues (just
less than a full member), they get the newsletter where they can brag
about their dogs, they have an opportunity to participate in all our
club activities if they feel like coming to Atlanta - what's so bad
about that?? What about people like Julie Degen, who has to travel
all over the world with her husband - are people whose jobs require
them to move around not to be allowed to consider a particular club as
their "home club" unless they happen to live nearby?

Terry Cochran wrote "why let people from outside their club compete"
in the Regional Challenge. To that I say - our associate members are
NOT outside our club - they are a part of us and we're just as proud
of their achievements as we are of any of our local members.
