To most puppy buyers the most important papers in their puppy's life is the
ones used to potty train. Many just want a healthy puppy bought from someone
they feel they can trust. They get a pedigree and they don't really care if
they register their puppy's or not. In the bigger picture it does not give you
one piece of info on what a male is or is not producing. Most of my puppy
buyers would rather Mirco chip their pups than register it with the AKC. Micro
chipping protects the pup What does the AKC registration do for them?
As for the Fut Mat entries. When you enter the pups they might look good, at
the time of the show they have gone into the puppy uglies. It is a match any
way you look at it. So you look at your ugly puppy and ask yourself . Do I want
to spend money showing this right now?? Most of the time the answer is no.
Can't fault anyone of that.
Terry who wonders why we keep asking the same ole questions.
Put simply we are not replacing ourselves in the breed because for the most
part I don't think we want the competition. As we go the Happy Hunting Ground
our numbers get smaller. Many who still love the breed are getting to old to
participate. Fewer people showing dogs, equals fewer people breeding show-dogs,
equals smaller entries.

I'm sure we've all heard of breeders losing entire litters to herpes, parvo,
etc. Combine that with pet owners who don't register and I'm sure it could
add up to 40% not being registered.
